CHALET ANSE AUX CAILLES
Recently, Valérie and Thish, Glampsource employees, went to stay at the Anse aux Cailles chalet in the heart of the Saguenay.
Let Valerie tell you about their adventure.
Located on the Saguenay Fjord, we already knew this place was going to be magical.
After picking up the keys at a hunting & fishing store in the village of Saint-Félix-d'Otis, we drove 2 km on a gravel road to get to our destination.
At the very end was the Anse aux Cailles Chalet, perched on a cliff with an absolutely spectacular view of the water.
At our request, the owner came to greet us. With great pride, Allen gave us a tour of his property.
After a few minutes of conversation, we understand that he is a man who is passionate about nature, who has put a lot of time and love into this project.
He acquired the land from a friend's brother in 2015.
In the beginning, there was only a modest wooden shack.
Over the years, he has completely revamped the interior by adding 2 small bedrooms, a bathroom, a well-equipped kitchen and a living room.
He also built a gazebo, a balcony and an outdoor fireplace so that his guests could make the most of the site.
His last installation: a dry toilet a few meters from the chalet.
During the renovations, it was important for him to stay as environmentally friendly as possible.
That is why you will find solar panels, a compost toilet, a gas oven and a wood fireplace.
This rustic cottage has everything to please!
After this little guided tour, Allen and his friend Marie-Hélène cooked a meal for us on the fire.
From the entrée to dessert, the food was not only incredible but cooked with local ingredients.
What a show it was to see them in action!
This experience is not yet offered to guests but they are working hard on the concept.
For us, that's what made our stay even more special.
We slept well after this hearty meal, falling asleep to the sounds of the Quail River and the waves.
When we woke up, the tide was low so we walked along the bank and ended with a swim in the river.
It was a hot day, the refreshing water of the natural pools was very welcome.
In the afternoon, at high tide, we took out our fishing rod to fish on the big rocks.
Mother Nature had other plans for us, the rain started falling before we could even catch a fish!
As the storm was setting in, we took refuge inside.
Nestled near the fireplace, we listened to the raindrops falling on the metal roof. What a beautiful melody!
After two nights, we were sad to have to leave this little paradise.
This stay definitely exceeded all our expectations.
At our request, Allen came by to say hello before we left and we took the opportunity to thank him.
We promised him we'd be back for ice fishing season.
Apparently, the view of the Frozen Fjord is absolutely breathtaking.
We are happy that in addition to discovering a beautiful part of the country, we have made friends.
